To the Editors:

Like typical American academics and politicians to whom they are supposedly superior, neither Mario Cuomo nor your reviewer of his Why Lincoln Matters Today More Than Ever bothered to speculate what our greatest president would have said about gay marriage or gays in the military. On page 5, Cuomo did note that to win in November Bush was pushing “vote-getting measures” including a constitutional ban on gay marriage. Since that issue alone may well decide the election I would like to hear what those two experts think that their hero would say about it and gays in the military.
